Day by Day
A representative itinerary. The order of landings and cruising is adapted to local conditions.
Day 1
Embark in Ushuaia
Board the expedition ship in the afternoon, meet the team and complete the safety drill before sailing through the Beagle Channel. Settle into the ship’s public spaces and observation decks as the mountains and forests of Tierra del Fuego give way to the open Southern Ocean.
Day 2
Towards the Falklands
Sail towards the Falkland Islands while joining briefings on wildlife, photography and shore procedures. Naturalists help identify albatrosses and petrels from the outer decks, and the sea day provides time to become familiar with the ship that will be home throughout this extended expedition.
Days 3–4
Falkland Islands
Landings may reveal white-sand bays, windswept island settlements and important penguin or albatross habitat. Walk with the expedition team through open coastal landscapes and learn how wildlife and local communities coexist in this remote archipelago. Exact sites depend on swell, weather and permission to land.
Days 5–6
Towards South Georgia
Cross open ocean towards South Georgia while the expedition team introduces the island’s ecology, exploration history and wildlife guidelines. Watch for seabirds following the ship, attend talks and enjoy the vessel’s lounges and observation areas as the dramatic mountains of South Georgia draw closer.
Days 7–10
South Georgia
Explore South Georgia’s mountain-backed bays through flexible shore landings and Zodiac cruises. Vast king-penguin colonies, elephant seals and fur seals may create extraordinary wildlife scenes, while conditions may also allow a visit to Grytviken or other historic sites. Every activity follows weather, swell and wildlife-protection rules, with naturalists helping guests understand the behaviour and recovery of the island’s wildlife. Time ashore is deliberately unhurried whenever conditions allow, giving space to observe rather than simply pass through.
Days 11–12
Scotia Sea
Head south across the Scotia Sea, scanning for whales, albatrosses and petrels as the water grows colder. Expedition lectures prepare guests for Antarctica, and the first icebergs provide a dramatic visual transition from South Georgia’s green valleys to the glaciated world of the Peninsula.
Days 13–18
Antarctic Peninsula
Spend several days exploring penguin colonies, glacier-lined bays and iceberg-filled channels. Depending on weather and sea ice, the team may arrange shore landings, snow walks and Zodiac cruises near towering ice formations. Watch for seals on floes and whales in sheltered waters, with all encounters determined by nature.
Days 19–23
Drake Passage and Return
Leave Antarctica and sail north across the Drake Passage, using the sea days for expedition recaps, specialist lectures and relaxed time in the ship’s public spaces. Continue watching for seabirds and whales before entering the Beagle Channel and disembarking in Ushuaia; the exact final day varies by departure.
